Tuberose (Sampangi) Bulbs – Single

Sampangi – the waxy white, heavily scented flower of Tamil Nadu garlands. These single tuberose bulbs grow into a grassy clump that sends up tall spikes of fragrant florets, perfect for cutting and for evening-scented gardens.

Planting guide

Step by step

1. Plant the bulbs – Set bulbs 2.5 cm deep and 20 cm apart in sunny, well-drained soil.
2. Water well – Water after planting; then keep the soil just moist, never waterlogged.
3. Feed the clump – Mix compost into the bed and top-dress once a month in the growing season.
4. Pick at dawn – Harvest open flowers or spikes early in the morning, before 8 am.

What to expect

1. Waxy white florets – Heavily fragrant, especially in the evening.
2. Opens from the bottom up – Buds open one pair after another up the spike.
3. Long grassy leaves – Spikes rise from the centre of the clump.

Safety: bulbs and tubers are not edible – keep them away from children and pets.
